ELSA Ukraine Partnership: Building WTO Law Skills and Advocacy Culture

Koziakov & Partners supports ELSA Ukraine’s WTO-focused education and moot court initiatives—helping law students develop practical trade-law knowledge, advocacy skills, and professional confidence through long-term sponsorship and mentorship.

Koziakov & Partners believes that a strong legal profession starts with strong legal education. That is why we have built a long-term partnership with ELSA Ukraine, supporting initiatives that help law students develop practical skills in WTO law and international trade regulation – areas that are increasingly central to Ukraine’s economic integration and international engagement.

A cornerstone of this cooperation is the WTO Law Course, delivered with ELSA Ukraine (and in recent editions together with ELSA Austria). The programme is designed to bridge academic learning and real practice: introducing core WTO concepts, trade remedies, and market access issues through structured sessions, practical examples, and discussions of real-world challenges faced by businesses and public authorities. Partner Nataliia Isakhanova serves as the author and academic advisor of the course programme, supporting its academic quality and practical focus.

We also support the development of advocacy skills through the ELSA Moot Court Competition on WTO Law. Moot court training teaches what textbooks cannot: legal analysis under time pressure, persuasive written submissions, oral advocacy, and strategic thinking. Our lawyers contribute as mentors, coaches and speakers, helping students translate legal knowledge into courtroom-level skills and professional confidence.

Through this sustained cooperation with ELSA Ukraine, we aim to support the next generation of Ukrainian lawyers – encouraging excellence, strengthening professional standards, and expanding access to specialised knowledge in international trade law.
