Partner Andrii Karnaukhov participated in the international scientific and practical conference “Combating the Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Property: The Role of Forensic Experts and Appraisers”, organised by the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on 26 February 2026. The event focused on one of the most pressing issues for the legal, expert, and cultural communities: the protection of cultural heritage and effective responses to the illicit movement of cultural property.
The conference brought together representatives of state authorities, forensic institutions, museums, the professional valuation community, scholars, and legal practitioners to discuss practical and legal mechanisms for safeguarding cultural heritage. The programme covered, among other things, forensic examination and valuation of cultural property, illicit export in wartime conditions, documentation of losses and theft, damage assessment, and international mechanisms for the return and restitution of cultural property.
Participation in professional discussions of this kind is important for developing a coordinated approach to the protection of Ukraine’s cultural heritage and for strengthening cooperation at the intersection of law, forensic expertise, and cultural institutions. For Koziakov & Partners, engagement in such events reflects the firm’s continued interest in legal issues relating to cultural property, heritage protection, and the broader institutional framework for protecting assets of national significance
