Koziakov & Partners participated in the Asbestos Management Conference held under the auspices of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on 14 January 2026. The firm was represented at the conference by Partner Andrii Pylypenko and Associate Evhenia Zheliezniakova.
The conference focused on the management of asbestos-containing debris in Ukraine, a critical issue for environmental safety, public health, and post-war recovery. During the discussions, the UNEP team presented an action plan aimed at improving Ukraine’s regulatory framework and strengthening institutional capacity in this area.
In Ukraine, UNEP is leading the implementation of the initiative “Enhancing Capacity of Hazardous Waste Management”, which is designed to develop sustainable approaches to the management of war debris containing asbestos. This initiative addresses one of the key environmental and public health challenges arising from the war and is an important component of Ukraine’s recovery efforts.
Koziakov & Partners provides comprehensive legal support to the UNEP team in the implementation of this initiative, including legal and regulatory assistance related to the proposed action plan.
